With the constant upheaval going on in the world today, just finding the motivation to get out of bed in the morning can take everything you’ve got before you even start your day. There are all kinds of suggestions out there that may offer a temporary fix, but in reality, these aren’t sustainable ideas. In fact, many of them will leave you feeling more exhausted and less motivated than ever!

Don’t wait another day! These tips will get you on the road to a more productive and enjoyable life:

Exercise daily

You don’t have to join a gym or take up cross country running to get enough exercise. The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend just 30 minutes of exercise five times a week for good health. That can include walking the dog, swimming, putting on music, and dancing while you clean the house. At work, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Go for a brisk walk with a coworker at lunchtime. Exercise, especially when done outdoors in the fresh air, is one of the top energy and mood boosters.

Get plenty of restful sleep

Do you ever wake up feeling like you haven’t slept at all? Learn how to get truly restful sleep at night so you’ll wake up refreshed and ready to take on the day. Seven to eight hours of sleep per night is recommended for adults. If you don’t feel like you’re sleeping as soundly as you’d like, try these tips:

  • Keep your bedroom at a cool temperature. Open a window for fresh, cool air or turn on a fan or a/c.
  • Invest in room darkening curtains. The darker your bedroom, the better you’ll sleep.
  • Keep all electronic devices out of your bedroom. Buy a regular alarm clock instead of using the feature on your cell phone. An hour before bedtime, turn off all your electronics and give your brain time to relax and prepare for a good night’s sleep.

Eat a healthy diet

The food we eat is what fuels our bodies and minds, literally. You wouldn’t fill up your car with dirty water from the river, so don’t fill yourself with yucky stuff either! Eat a balanced diet of fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy foods. Keep sugary sweets and deep-fried and processed foods to a minimum.

A happier, healthier life is at your fingertips, literally within your reach at every moment. Nobody is going to make it happen except you, and nobody is going to reap the amazing rewards that are waiting for you! So what are you waiting for? Happy living!
