With the pandemic altering every industry, including fitness, people have started getting more creative with the way they work out. Being confined to our living spaces doesn’t have to mean slacking on our fitness regimes. We saw many adaptations in 2020, and in 2021 we will see even more. Let’s take a look at the top fitness trends to expect for 2021.

Home Fitness

A study conducted by OnePoll concluded that 75% of people believed it is easier to stay fit at home, and with the pandemic, people are more interested than ever in at-home workouts. More people are converting certain parts of their living spaces into at-home gyms and fitness centers. The best part about this is that it is not too expensive to buy gym equipment, and you stay safer by always knowing who is using it and cleaning it off.

Minimal-Equipment Exercise Apps

If you do not have space in your home for a workout room, and you do not have money for gym equipment, you can still get your exercise in. Many people are relying on technology and apps such as free Youtube videos, Apple Fitness subscriptions, and more to guide them through their workout routines. Many of the exercises featured make use of your own body for resistance instead of needing extra equipment.

Active Video Games

Gaming is not only fun, it can also be a way to exercise! The gaming industry is incorporating fitness into their programs using your body as the primary controller. Some of the most popular fitness video games include Nintendo Ring Fit, Just Dance 2021, and Black Box Virtual Reality Fitness.

Virtual Training

Social distancing will undoubtedly continue through 2021, so at-home fitness programs and online workout communities are becoming the new gym. Users are able to choose between training with a live instructor or participate in a pre-recorded workout session. At home cycling programs such as Peloton and Echelon are becoming increasingly popular. Other virtual training apps include Zwift, VirZoom, Tone & Sculpt, and Equinox Variis. These apps come in a range of subscriptions, not all of them needing extra equipment.
